Vegas!

When we calculated the travel times of the last three days of this journey, the GPS and the good, old-fashioned Rand McNally Road Atlas set it up something like this:

• Day 1  Topeka to the Denver area
• Day 2  Denver area to Cedar City, UT 
• Day 3  Cedar City, UT to Los Angeles!

By now you know that we wound up in Frisco, CO for Wednesday night, but we didn't stop on Day 2 in or near Cedar City, UT.  Pav suggested we continue on a few more hours and get to Las Vegas, and for under $100, we got a very nice hotel room at the Monte Carlo, right on the Strip.

And our first glimpse of 'home'--

It turns out that friends of Pav's, Cris and Morgan, just happened to be in Vegas for the evening, so after we showered and went down to the The Pub in the hotel for dinner, we met them for a drink at the Minus5Experience.  The Minus5 is a bar made entirely out of ice--yes, the bar, the seating, the walls, and even your drinking glasses are made out of ice.  For a price, you are given gloves and a parka and can relax with your friends over a beverage.  [Turns out it was oddly reminiscent of going out to start my car each morning this past February in Connecticut, except I had a coffee travel mug and didn't pay nearly as much for the 'experience'!]

Like many of our stops along this trip, Vegas was no more than 12 hours, but we had such a great time, and I was happy to get to meet Cris and Morgan.
